They likely are not even familiar with the fundamental in personam vs. in rem distinction between equity and law. This is the fault of law schools, which would rather teach international law and race hustler nonsense than dwell on the deep roots of American law. Still, wtf!

everyone. i just dropped a friend off at the airport and the tsa guys were clowning on some dude for thinking delaware chancellor courts were strictly equitable relief systems and not simply a denotation of their legal system.

I've seen even worse, at Dover Beach the University of Delaware LAX team was playing keep-away with VC Laster's wig, sneering stuff like "no irreparable injury here guess you can't do anything to stop this!"

Law school never taught me about the history of courts of equity, though some gunners in my 1L section looked it up.

I did learn a lot about Law and Economics and critical feminist theory though. Much more than I learned any black letter law or legal history.

Legal history can be very interesting. They should teach more of it in LS rather than BS fluffy subjects.

are you making the point that as a matter of law as-applied as opposed to as-announced the availability of an adequate legal remedy seldom determines whether injunctive or other equitable relief may be had?

in pari delicto & unclean hands is an important background doctrine to know, even if it often doesn't do formal work in a case. [though of course there's stuff like Bateman Eichler, 472 U.S. at 310-11]

Mississippi still has separate courts of law and equity. Is it the most preftigious American legal system?

Absolutely. England fused them back in the 1870s but there was still one Australian superior court with separate law and equity divisions until about 1970.

PS: although Louisiana with its reliance on French and Roman civil law is also interesting and preftigious
